With Thanksgiving around the corner, I want to remind you that it is 100 percent possible to maintain your health and waistline while still having fun and enjoying this yearly indulgent meal!
We can easily prep delicious Thanksgiving meals with “real,” and even macro-friendly foods. However, what we do to them and how many servings we take can lead to a slippery slope (if you’re trying to watch overall calories).
For example, you can enjoy the turkey, the stuffing, the sweet potatoes, the bread, and the green beans…
But do you really need a whole serving of each, or can you make the stuffing, sweet potatoes, and bread servings each small enough to equal one serving of carbs? Do you need marshmallows for the sweet potatoes, or can you dress them with cinnamon and sea-salted butter?
One other saving grace to this holiday meal is salad.
Whether you are a guest offering to bring a salad or the host, include a HUGE salad with lots of variety such as chopped green apples, dried cranberries, toasted walnuts, celery, cucumber, olives, and a SIMPLE dressing like olive oil and lemon (that’s it). You can always fill your plate with salad while sampling the rest of the meal choices!
With that said, it is ONLY one meal – so perhaps you’ll choose to indulge away.
Can you plan your movements for the week now? Get your family outside to play a soccer or basketball game, go for a morning brisk walk, and commit to that every day this week. Plan weekend hikes or pickleball, and enjoy the active family time
