Do you embrace the white space in your life?
My financial coach pointed out that he often sees people getting ahead of their financial health only to insert chaos with big spending.
And I realized this was me…
But not only with spending (which seems somewhat under control).
Instead, I see it with the things I put on my plate…
I’ll decide to take on a new project before completing other work, or I’ll squeeze in social time with friends when I’m on a deadline, etc.
And in Summertime, I have the energy to keep up with all that…
But come Autumn, and it starts to become unmanageable.
My chest tightens, my breath shortens, and my eyes get tired and dry.
Why? Because this is the season for “whitespace” – according to traditional Chinese medicine.
Unfortunately, my habit of overfilling my plate makes it challenging to have the much-needed whitespace in my life.
So here are three things I’ve done to stop this behavior:
1. Commit to a 5-minute deep breathing routine (where I lengthen and deepen my breath). Autumn is the season for our lungs, so let’s get them working!
2. Daily hundred. Have you ever learned the Pilates daily hundred? It’s this fantastic exercise designed to get your blood flowing without straining your heart!
3. Go to bed earlier and wake up a little later. Interestingly, the atmosphere has less energy during Autumn and Winter, so we need more sleep. Honor that by adjusting your schedule to allow for a little bit more rest than usual.
Please share this with your friends and tell me your biggest take away.
